MEET THE COMPOSER

Maggie Michelle Nicks (b. 1995), is a composer and soprano based in New York City. Her works include pieces for instrumental solo, string quartet, instrumental chamber ensemble, electronics, solo voice with various instrumental accompaniment, small vocal ensemble, chorus, and opera.

 

In 2019, she was nominated for an annual Academy of Arts and Letters music composition award by Ellen Zwilich. She was nominated and chosen by Florida State University’s Music Theory and Composition Department faculty to compose I Don’t Love You (2020), an original composition for the acclaimed Burgin String Quartet (FSU’s resident string quartet).

 

In May 2020, Nicks received a Master of Music in Music Composition from FSU where she studied with Stephen Montague and Liliya Ugay. Recipient of a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, she was an instructor of the four-semester undergraduate Sight Singing and Ear Training sequence at FSU. Prior to that, she obtained her Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from Stetson University where she studied with Sydney Hodkinson and Manuel de Murga.
